Manager Stop Smoking Service (Band 8A)
NHS Lewisham wishes to recruit a service manager to lead the stop smoking service at a time of change. This year, the service will transfer to a selected provider organization. The service manager will focus on developing excellent and effective service provision. The service will be commissioned by a tobacco control manager in Public Health and will be supported by partnership work on the wider tobacco control agenda.
The stop smoking service already benefits from continuity of staffing, the quality of its advisors, achieving its target for 2 years, a training programme of good quality, excellent data management and a commitment to continuous improvement. Increased investment has been agreed to appoint specialist advisors to the team; for pregnancy, mental health and work with the acute trust. A pool of sessional workers offer flexibility in recruitment and service activity.
We are looking for a manager with skill and experience in managing staff, budgets and in developing services. The manager will be expected to deliver an action plan which prioritises areas of high prevalence, recruiting more smokers and joint work with the NHS Health Checks Programme.

An exciting opportunity has risen to manage the stop smoking service in Lambeth.
NHS Lambeth has prioritised Smoking Cessation as one of its six strategic priorities for the next 5 years. The other areas are: sexual health, long term conditions, diabetes, mental health and childhood obesity.
Having achieved well beyond its target in 2008/09 and in line with World Class Commissioning best practice guidance ambitious quitter targets have been set for 2009/10 and beyond. Extra investment has been allocated to help achieve this target and the Stop Smoking Service Manager will be central to co-ordinating all the activities relating to smoking cessation in Lambeth to achieve this.

The post holder will be responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate stop smoking services within NHS Kensington & Chelsea.
The post will require a degree of autonomy and involve close partnership working with colleagues within other PCT directorates, voluntary sector, local authority, other parts of the local health economy particularly mental health staff, and with the wider Local Strategic Partnership.

You will be an integral part of the visiting team, drawing on your expert and practical knowledge to support the development of local strategies to reduce health inequalities. You will work with other team members to identify local challenges and propose practical support. You will continue your relationship with the Spearhead partnerships in developing and enabling a package of agreed support following the visit. Your specialist knowledge will be used in the facilitation of local workshops investigating the local health partnership's approach to addressing premature mortality.
You will have senior strategic level experience in tackling health inequalities within health, local government or an associated public health or health and wellbeing background. You will have good facilitation, interview and assessment skills and the ability to grasp quickly a strategic picture.
